cooks symbol was a crossed pair of arrows for military scouts. there is no real symbol for cherokee that I know of, but the syllabry for it i have researched and could help you with. cherokee for scout and tracker roughly translated to 'one who sees" and was used for hunter as well at times. dialects differ.
apache had no written language that I know of to use. maybe an animal symbol? stick figure on wall paintings? I will look.
scouting and raiding are fairly intertwined. It might be more fun to create something that that has meaning for you with bird language, tracking, raiding, arrows and headbands, and the like.
apparently though, owls are bad news as ill omens for apache,I even saw several references to Crooks apache scouts referencing it that way when a soldier found one and brought it along.
what about that red headband?

wish I had more to add, just havent found much that would translate into a solid "this is what apache scout symbol was" kinda thing.
sorry,
jeff
I would think that if anyone knew it would be tom brown or kevin. Kevins bibliography is huge if you havent looked at it.
