anyone familiar with the case? thought the article and incident had some interesting learning points> wonder who the experienced tracker were?

it didn't sound to me like there were any experienced trackers there, just a bunch of swat guys rambling through the woods, that's why one broke his ankle.. just because the article says they tried to track him down doesn't imply anyone there knows anything about real tracking.

That's my question, who were the "experienced" trackers referenced in the article? I guess that terrain is pretty tough. I'm a fat old man, I would likely be one of those with ortho injuries. There are good trackers scattered all over, but would like too see recognition of guys Gand gals getting out there. Where did they find them? SAR? Tactical team? Trappers or local club? Maybe good or bad hunters? Inqiuiring minds wanna know. Knowing might help in helping trackers get used more. I love the stories where tracking gets used.

Here's an article published last week about the police tracker that found him: http://mynorthwest.com/646/669678/The-mantracker-who-found-a-murder-suspects-bunker

Trackerdoc. Troy Chaffee, referenced in the article, is the Troy from Wash. that was in the JHPTS class in Ark City when we were evaluated for basic. Kathy gave a case briefing of this incident at the class this last weekend.

so troy has been workingwith Cathy Decker on crime scene work for a while if i remember correctly, and cathy is not only a signcutter with joel hardin, but she is a great teacher and evaluator. if you ever get to work with Cathy or troy, they are great and you will learn alot. Good people too>

Hot, windy, dry and awsome as usual. Very little classtime; mostly in the field. Had 6 3 man tracking teams on a scenerio over varied terrain. One team consisted of 3 or 4 guys being evaled for basic; they did well. A good time, learned alot, and they did not even charge me for the ticks I brought back.
